Back Roads

While working at House of Anansi Press, I was asked to submit some options for an upcoming literary thriller. Here are a few of the rejected covers. For one of the concepts we wanted it to look like a moth imprint in snow or dust which was a common imagery found throughout the book. We took several different powders including salt, coco powder and powdered sugar and then shook them over a cut out of a moth to get the imprint. It was a great opportunity to really get creative and the talented Paige Lindsay photographed the artwork. I’ve also included some photos for a behind the scenes look at how we achieved the snow/gritty look to the moth covers.
